Spots & Weather

Chase the wind, master the waves and explore Tenerife’s best watersports playground – from bay to harbour.

THE SPOTS IN EL MÉDANO

Four Spots. One Playground.

El Médano has earned its reputation as a world-class, year-round watersports destination thanks to one thing: the super reliable northeast trade wind – the “Alisios.” This wind delivers cross-onshore conditions nearly every day of the year, making it ideal for everyone from first-time kiters to seasoned pros.

Want to read the wind like a local? Here’s a tip: when Windguru shows northeast, add 5–10 knots to the forecast. That boost comes from the wind accelerating around Tenerife’s mighty Mount Teide.

For the most accurate forecast, check windy.com. And when the wind shifts south, the entire bay turns into a freestyle dream – often with stronger gusts than predicted. Combine that with air temperatures that rarely go above 32°C or below 20°C (even in winter), and you’ve got one of the most consistent and comfortable places to ride in Europe.

weather & conditions

Europe’s most reliable watersports destination.

El Médano offers some of the most consistent wind and water conditions in Europe. With steady trade winds, warm air and sea temperatures, and around 300 days of sunshine per year, it’s a paradise for kiters and foilers year-round. Wind speeds typically range between 15 and 35 knots, with the strongest sessions in winter, spring, and summer. And thanks to the island’s geography, you can usually add 5–10 knots to any northeast forecast. The bay itself offers something for everyone: flat water near the shore, chop and swell out back, and world-class wave spots just minutes away. Whether you’re chasing freestyle, freeride, or waves, El Médano delivers – all day, all year.
